  • How to use non-woven painter's lining correctly
    News 2025. 7. 9. 16:54

    Paintable non-woven fabric is becoming an increasingly popular material for interior decoration. It is used as a base for putty, for painting or subsequent wallpapering.

    The use of non-woven paintable lining minimizes the risk of cracks appearing on surfaces. This is especially important in new buildings, which are subject to shrinkage in the first years after construction. Non-woven paintable lining also helps to hide minor irregularities in the base, making the wall smoother.

    Preparing the walls
    Paintable non-woven fabric has certain requirements for the surface. In professional circles, such a surface is designated by the degree "K2", also known as "Q2", or by the more familiar term "for wallpapering".

    Vertical deviations of 2 mm per 2 linear meters are allowed;
    Visible dents, scratches, burrs and tool marks (up to 1 mm deep) are allowed;
    Localized drips of putty mortar at the joint (no more than 1 mm high) are allowed;
    Gaps in the area of putty joints up to 1 mm are allowed;
    Shadows from side light are allowed.
    To achieve this quality of wall, it is necessary to complete the following stages of work:

    Priming the base with a deep penetration primer on which the plaster will be applied.
    Installation of beacon profiles.
    Preparation and application of plaster solution, its leveling.
    Trimming with a rule along beacon profiles.
    After 15-20 minutes of trimming with a rule, treat the surface with a spatula, eliminating minor deviations from the plane.
    After 15-20 minutes, wet and rub the plaster with a hard sponge float.
    When the surface becomes matte, start smoothing it out with a spatula.

    Padding
    The primer strengthens the wall surface, forming a film coating when dry.

    Other finishing materials and wallpaper glue adhere well to it.

    The film coating reduces the absorbency of the wall, preventing the wallpaper glue from drying too quickly.

    This allows you to maintain its adhesive ability and improve the adhesion of the non-woven paintable lining to the wall.

    Gluing paintable non-woven fabric
    The next step is gluing the painter's interlining. There are several gluing methods.

    Before gluing, you need to calculate the surface area and the length of the required sections. Carefully cut the sheets of material by length and quantity.

    When gluing, do not forget to provide an allowance of material at the top and bottom of the wall for high-quality adjustment and trimming. Then, glue is applied to the area of the surface to be pasted (this can be done with a brush or roller). The glue is applied only to the wall.

    When performing wallpapering work, it is necessary to comply with standard requirements and recommendations:

    Work should be carried out at a temperature of 18°C - 25°C.
    Relative air humidity no more than 50%. The air in the room should not be too humid or dry.

    It is necessary that the drying process is carried out smoothly, without the use of heaters and fans. This affects the quality of the work.

    Drafts or direct sunlight are not allowed.

    Re-priming
    Before painting, it is necessary to prime the non-woven fabric again. This will help reduce paint consumption and improve its adhesion to the surface.

    If you do not plan to paint the walls covered with non-woven wallpaper, but instead will apply a layer of decorative wallpaper, then re-priming is not required.

    Painting
    The final stage is painting. Water-dispersion paints are used for painting.

    To paint the wall neatly, it is recommended to first apply paint to the places where the wallpaper meets the ceiling or baseboard. You can also paint the corners separately. You can use a small brush or roller for this.

    After that, apply paint to the entire wall area. Do not press hard on the roller and do not move too quickly, so as not to stain the ceiling with paint splashes. If there are gaps when painting, do not try to paint them right away. Instead, finish painting the entire wall and let the paint dry. After applying the second layer of paint, all the gaps will be easy to fill and will not be visible.
